Camp Omagh Spring Newsletter - 2006

Message from the President

As we eagerly await the warmer sunny days of summer when the grounds of Camp Omagh are alive with the “Sounds of Silence.” The quiet unspoken ways that young people will see God and Christ living in their teachers, counselors and directors. As you read this, many hands are busily preparing programs and activities, schedules are being drawn up, material is being compiled, and time is spent in prayer with our creator. All this to ensure the most productive atmosphere is available to teach young people about Jesus and God. I thank those involved in doing all this for Camp Omagh. I encourage you to prayerfully consider working with this ministry. As Camp Omagh continues to adjust being in the 21st century, you will find significant changes to our Registration Process in facilitating efficient processing of campers for the Summer Bible Camp Programs. Please pray for the continued effectiveness of Omagh in reaching out to young souls through camping experiences and that God will continue to bless all those that enter the grounds of Camp Omagh.

In his service,

David Jaggard

President

Maintenance and Projects Committee

Camp requires attention year round from a maintenance perspective, but we look especially forward to the opening of Camp and projects in the spring every year. We really appreciate all those who continue to come out to help get things ready. I know that as all of you arrive at Camp you can imagine what is going to happen there this summer and how the kids will create memories that will last a life-time. Our list of projects we want to complete this year include: replacing all beds in Faith, install new screen doors in the boys cabins, clean up fallen trees, plant new perimeter trees, varnish pine ceilings in Johnstone Hall, as well as our regular spring preparations. We are also planning to make some capital expenditures that include; new shutters for McKerlie house, new lawn mowing equipment, and new BBQ’s. Starting May 27 there will be work going on at the Camp every Saturday until Camp starts. We can’t do it without your help, so plan to come out with your family or congregation. If you would like more information on a specific job please contact me.

Cooks Needed

Cooks are needed for a number of programs this summer. Whether you have previous experience as a camp cook or not, this would be a great opportunity to provide an important service to others. If you can volunteer as a cook please contact Debbie at 905-584-9955, Patrick at 905-877-4417 or email us at personnelandprogram@campomagh.org

Corporation Meeting and Dinner

Have you been to a Corporation Meeting & Dinner lately? If you haven’t, this will be the year to attend. We made a number of changes and improvements last year that were well received by the over 70 people who attended. Please mark the date on your calendar and stay tuned for more details. The Corporation Meeting & Dinner is on October 28 and will start at 3:00 p.m. See you there!

Personnel and Program Committee

Camp Omagh is in need of two individuals for the position of Lifeguard for the 2006 (July-August) camp season. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older, and have or are able to obtain full NLS (National Lifeguard Safety Qualifications) prior to the start of Camp - July 7th. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available at Camp Omagh this spring and summer: maintenance projects, cleaning, and camp cook. Attention high school students - this would be a great way to obtain your community service requirements.

Camp Ambassadors

To facilitate communication about camp news and activities, we are in the process of finding at least one person in each congregation in Ontario to be the contact person for camp. By having a contact person at a congregation we will ensure that camp-related materials are not lost in the shuffle. This person will also be able to ensure that any announcements about camp activities or camp needs are communicated to the congregation. If this responsibility sounds like something you may be interested in, call Rick Burrows at 905-455-4907 or send an email to: campomaghambassador@campomagh.org
